Issues monitor highlights increasing uncertainty 

The 2022 edition of our annual World Energy Issues monitor shows a sharp uptick in uncertainty across almost all issues assessed by. Globally, responses from nearly 2,200 energy leaders from 91 countries show volatile commodity prices, fragmented economic growth, fragile geopolitics and concerns around security of supply contribute to uncertainty. Humanising Energy: an Australian example

The Humanising Energy online series aims to tell the human story at the heart of the energy sector. Produced for the World Energy Council by BBC StoryWorks Commercial Productions, further episodes have been added including the story of eleXsys, an Australian company redesigning microgrids for improved renewable energy access and autonomy.  Read more...

Renewables revolution for electricity market

The Electricity Authority's Market Development Advisory Group are investigating how the wholesale market, including spot markets, hedge markets, and investments, would work under a 100% renewable electricity system to understand what changes may be needed. The recently released issues paper includes modelling of future market outcomes and key issues.

OMV investment a bridge in the energy transition

A significant investment in Taranaki's mature gas field is helping to fuel the energy transition in New Zealand. With a major campaign at the Māui A field about to conclude, OMV are set to embark on a similar campaign to regenerate the Māui B field and bring more natural gas to businesses and homes in Aotearoa. In January, the Valaris 249 rig arrived safely in Taranaki waters after a long journey from Dundee. Read more...

Decarbonising LPG

The LPG Association released new research this month outlining how New Zealand could transition to renewable LPG alternatives by 2035. The report Exploring short term renewable LPG/DME production for NZ prepared by energy consultants Worley, found that renewable dimethyl ether (rDME) is a clear option for decarbonising LPG in New Zealand, by way of second generation rDME, utilising waste.

Vector seeks non-wire alternatives in Warkworth

Vector are seeking registrations of interest from suitably qualified suppliers who are interested in delivering Non-Wires Alternative (NWA) in the wider Warkworth region, an area of high growth and customer demand. This will help defer or replace the need for specific equipment upgrades, such as lines, cables, or transformers, by reducing the load at a substation or circuit level.  Read more...
