Human pace for net zero race - Angela Wilkinson

As countries around the world race to meet net zero targets, World Energy Council Secretary General Angela Wilkinson argues a human pace is the only way to ensure humanity builds forward and grows together. Many targets focus on electricity, just 20 percent of the world's energy mix, not the full energy usage spectrum which has driven global geopolitics, social and environmental justice and human development. Read more...

Impact of climate advice

What do the Commission's climate recommendations mean for renewable energy? We will need to maximise the use of electricity and its generation from renewable resources. We should explore options like biofuel and the bioeconomy. And while we must reduce local emissions, we must also be careful not to shift the problem elsewhere. Asia Pacific Hydrogen webinar published

Our Asia Pacific regional webinar last month explored the different drivers for hydrogen demand and emerging national hydrogen strategies. The event was hosted by the Japan Energy Association,  with speakers from The Institute of Energy Economics, Japan, the Clean Fuel Ammonia Association, as well as the Australian and New Zealand Hydrogen Councils. Sustainable supply chain option one step closer

Shipping giant A.P. Moller - Maersk is leading the way in decarbonising global logistics. Around half of their 200 customers have, or are aiming to have ambitious net zero carbon targets for their supply chains. Which is why Maersk aim to launch the world's first carbon neutral liner vessel in 2023. The dual fuel technology means the vessel will operate on carbon neutral e-methanol or sustainable bio-methanol from day one. Read more...

New speakers for carbon & energy conference

Former UN Assistant Secretary General and member of European Parliament for more than 10 years, Andres Wijkman is one of the latest keynote speakers to join this year's carbon and energy conference, Regenerating New Zealand. "[Wijkman] is a long-standing advocate for efficiency, the circular economy and action on climate change" notes CEP's Mike Hopkins. Read more...

Construction to begin on Hawke's Bay windfarm

Meridian have shared plans to build New Zealand's second largest windfarm at Harapaki in the Hawke's Bay. The 41 turbines will provide an additional 176MW of renewable generation capacity. Meridian Energy Chief Executive Neal Barclay says the decision to commence construction now is a sign of confidence that clean energy infrastructure can deliver strong economic benefits. Read more...

Thundergrid helps land owners, fleet operators 

Willis Bond Property Developers and Greater Wellington Regional Council have teamed up to provide smart, connected EV charging facilities, using Thundergrid's billing and power management service.  The platform manages power for 50+ onsite stations and automatically repays the landlord for power consumed. GWRC can monitor fleet status and fuel use via a fleet portal. Read more...

Electrification secure, cost effective - report

Transpower's latest analysis shows what action could be taken to electrify transport and process heat. The Electrification Roadmap finds not only is electrification possible, but it stands to make the energy system more secure and cost effective. According to the report, electrification could reduce NZ emissions by 4.7MtCO2e and generate net benefits to the economy of $500 million by 2030.  Read more...
