Energy Efficiency & Conservation Authority (EECA)
EECA’s role is to mobilise New Zealanders to be world leaders in clean and clever energy use.
EECA has a particular focus on productive and low emissions business, because when New Zealand businesses increase energy productivity and use renewable energy efficiently, it’s good for the whole economy.
The business sector in New Zealand spends $8.4 billion per annum on energy. Energy use by businesses (excluding transport) accounts for about 50% of New Zealand's total energy use, and more than 40% of New Zealand's energy-related CO2 emissions.
EECA encourages New Zealand businesses to adopt strategic energy management systems by providing advice, technical assistance and co-investment. EECA engages directly with the largest energy-using businesses, and partner with accredited energy service providers and industry associations to assist the wider sector.
EECA administers a number of co-funding and support programmes to enable businesses to cost-effectively reduce their energy use. These include the Low Emissions Transport Fund, the Government Investment in Decarbonising Industry Fund, the Technology Demonstration Fund and the Energy Transition Accelerator.
EECA also supports energy management work by providing compelling information to decision-makers showing that investing in energy efficiency makes good business sense. The tools we use include energy audits, monitoring and targeting and energy management planning, along with advice on engaging staff, training and business case development.
