Wellington panel event and Energy Sector Christmas function

You’re invited

Energy Resources Aotearoa, the BusinessNZ Energy Council, Electricity Networks Aotearoa, GasNZ, Electricity Retailers’ Association of New Zealand and the Bioenergy Association are proud to invite you to this special end of year event with an outstanding line-up of speakers, followed immediately by our energy sector Christmas function.

To put it mildly, 2024 has been a tumultuous year in New Zealand’s energy scape. Energy shortages, volatile energy prices, factory closures and job losses have dominated the discourse. Accusations, name calling, stout defences and reviews have followed in hot pursuit. Meanwhile the imperative of needing cheap, abundant and reliable energy to fuel our economy recovery builds. Has economic reality in New Zealand trumped emission reduction aspiration in a world where, according to the IEA, “two-thirds of the increase in global energy demand in 2023 was met by fossil fuels”?

Join our panelists as they reflect on the year that was, and look over the horizon at the coalition government’s shift to rebalance the pursuit of energy security and resilience over emission reduction, the new policy operating context, with its focus on productivity and markets, not handouts, the desire for encouraging greater investment, and the role of capital, skills, data and technology in unlocking New Zealand’s economic, social and environmental prosperity.

Our MC is Simon Healy – Partner, PwC New Zealand and panelists include:

  • Malcolm Johns – Chief Executive, Genesis
  • Sarah Sinclair – Chair and Partner, MinterEllisonRuddWatts
